June 2022 Email Archive – Does God Speak Through Your Journal?

God is still speaking

Remember how Jesus said there was more he wanted to say, and that the Father would send the Spirit to teach and guide us?  (See John 16:12-13 and John 14:26.)

The Father has sent the Spirit! In fact, today marks the anniversary of the day when the Spirit was first powerfully poured out on the church. (See Acts 2.)

The Spirit of God is daily, actively teaching us and leading us into all truth.

What is God emphasizing to your heart today?

I’ve been working on a new book about how to journal with God. One of the things I love about journaling is how it helps me discover what God is emphasizing to me.

God has a heart and feelings—as we see evidenced throughout Scripture and in our own lives. And he designed us for relationship with him, to share his heart and his feelings.

Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts before Him. God is our refuge. – Psalm 62:8 (HCSB)

Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and incomprehensible things you do not know. – Jeremiah 33:3 (HCSB)

God enjoys hearing from us and speaking with us—and he does so in a great variety of ways. Journaling is just one of the ways we can communicate with God.

Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” – Matthew 4:4 (HCSB)

For me, journaling is an enjoyable, life-giving way of enjoying God’s company—and getting to share in what he is focusing on.

What do you wonder about journaling?

I’d love to make sure my new book addresses real questions people have about journaling, or about journaling with God. After decades of journaling, I’m still discovering new things as I go, but I’d love to share what I’ve learned so far!

Would you help me by sending me your questions? Just hit reply to this email and let me know what you’ve wondered about journaling.

Parting Words

God has used pen and paper—as well as many other ways—to lead me into freedom and goodness in areas of life where I didn’t even realize there was more available from him!

Each of my Valley of Artisans books (that’s my new fiction series – links below) is themed according to something God emphasized to me. I was able to keep and examine what God had shared, because I had written it down.

Take care how you listen. For whoever has, more will be given to him, and whoever does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken away from him. – Luke 8:18 (HCSB)

I pray he’ll do the same for you as you listen and follow the leading of his Spirit to focus wherever he guides you daily—whether that’s in your reading, writing, or another expression. Let us incline our hearts to listen to God!

Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts. – Hebrews 4:7 (HCSB)

Reminder: Please hit reply and send me your questions about journaling!

To your freedom, health, and wholeness,
