March 2020 Email Archive – What Story is Your Life Telling?
Your life is a story. And you are not the only one telling it.
Your story is being told by God and you. Your life is a story of how you are trusting and working with God.
And a story of what God is doing through you.
“Go home to your people and report to them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how he had mercy on you.” – Mark 5:19 (NASB)
“Come and hear, all who fear God, and I will tell of what he has done for my soul.” – Psalm 66:16 (NASB)
What’s your story for?
One purpose of your story is to help other people find and know God:
“Write down for the coming generation what the LORD has done, so that people not yet born will praise him.” – Psalm 102:18 (GNT)
Your story can also be an instrument in the hands of Christ as he destroys evil:
“… Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night. And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony…” – Revelation 12:10–11 (NASB, emphasis added)
“…the son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.” – 1 John 3:8 (NASB)
You know whose life was a powerful testimony? Job.
Over and over, Satan tried to get Job to move into wrong alignment with God. Satan killed Job’s children. He destroyed Job’s relationships, his finances, and his health. Job’s wife suggested that Job should give up on God—and on life. And three of Job’s friends insisted that Job should accept their untrue views of what God was doing in Job’s life.
As Job responded to each loss—and to each person’s wrong ideas about God—in ways that were right in the eyes of God, Job’s actions and his words became his story… his testimony.
Job’s testimony was examined in a heavenly court (Job 1:6–22; 2:1–8), and it was written down in a book (the Bible book of Job) that has been available for thousands of years for humans to read. In Faith with Grit, I discuss the idea that Job’s testimony may have even been used by God to prepare the incarnate Jesus for his difficult mission—the one by which God saved us.
Job’s story—his testimony—really mattered.
What’s God doing with your story?
In order to co-create, with God, a story, a testimony, he can use, it’s our job to follow God’s leading in every part of our lives (see Galatians 5:25). Our lives then naturally become stories about what God is doing in us, and through us—the story of Immanuel, God with us.
The story of Agnes Sanford’s Christian life and work continues to speak to me about the work God wants to do through humans to bring his kingdom to earth. I continue to learn from her fiction and nonfiction books about prayer, healing, and life in God.
A Pasture for Peterkin by Agnes Sanford – This book is written for older kids, but I was glad to read it. I think people of all ages interested in how to know what to pray for, how to pray prayers that God answers, and other questions about prayer and faith would learn much from it, as I did. Here’s a short blog post I wrote about A Pasture for Peterkin.
Behold Your God by Agnes Sanford – I have learned so many practical and life-changing lessons about the prayer of faith from this book and from Sanford’s lectures (available from the CFO Classics Library online). Behold Your God also helped me understand more about hindrances and helps to prayer power, the power of communion, and so much more. For those who are interested in living the type of Christian life she modeled, I highly recommend this book. (I’d suggest reading several of Sanford’s other books before this one.)

My new book Faith with Wings is getting close to completion and I hope to have an announcement for you soon! I am so excited about this book, because I’m excited about what God has been doing and I can’t wait to share it with you. In some ways I feel like it’s the best part of my story with God yet. But what I love most is that I know God is not done!
P.S. Check out the Scripture posts throughout the week at Instagram.com/amylurileyauthor. I’m sharing Scriptures that encourage me, and that I hope will encourage you!
