What are These Words You are Exchanging?

Jesus refers (in Luke 24:17) to words as tangible things being exchanged.

And He said to them, “What are these words that you are exchanging with one another as You are walking?” And they came to a stop, looking sad. – Luke 24:17 (NASB)

Their words made them look sad. Because the two travelers did not believe the women’s report about Jesus being risen. (See Luke 24:11).

No wonder Jesus asked them that question!

Later, when the same people who’d rejected the words about Jesus being raised from the dead believed it—they were “filled with great joy.” (See Luke 24:26-52.)

The whole truth about Jesus has the power to do that.

(For more details, see Luke 24:1-53.)

Here. Put This in Your Ear.

Envision words as items,

being handed into ears and hearts

as you speak and listen.

Because that is what words are.

Prayer

God, thank you for your words that bring me life and joy.

Help me believe all of the good news about you that you have revealed.

And let your good news be the words I exchange with others.
