Rescue Us from the Evil One

Rescue us from the evil one. Matthe 6:13 (NLT)

“Rescue us from the evil one” (Matthew 6:13 NLT). This is no throwaway phrase in the Lord’s prayer. When Jesus taught his disciples to pray, he included it. And later, when Jesus prayed for all disciples, he prayed it again: “I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one” (John 17:15 NLT).

Jesus taught us to pray this. Jesus has prayed this for us. It’s that important.

So, let’s pray now:

Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy.
May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us today the food we need, and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
And don’t let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.
(Matthew 6:9-13 NLT)
