When You Fix Your Mind & Eyes on Christ

What I’ve Been Thinking About

  • Christ will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is fixed on him.
  • Scripture encourages us to run our race with our eyes fixed on Christ.
  • Jesus Christ doesn’t change. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8 NLT). A fixed point is something that remains the same while other things around it change.

Fixing My Mind on Christ

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! - Isaiah 26:3 (NLT)

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! – Isaiah 26:3 (NLT)

Here are some other translations of the same verse. Look at what the mind is doing, and how God responds:

  • You will keep the mind that is dependent on You in perfect peace, for it is trusting in You. (HCSB)
  • You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You. (NKJV)

Fixing My Eyes on Christ

Scripture also invites us to fix our eyes on Jesus:

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. – Hebrews 12:1-2NKJV)

Several other translations of this passage use the words “fixing” or “keeping” our eyes on Jesus. See them here: Hebrews 12:2 in multiple English translations at Biblegateway.com.

Where to Look

In the very same sentence that Paul told us to look to Jesus, he also told us that Jesus “has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God,” where he continues to intercede for us; (see Hebrews 12:2 and Romans 8:34). I’ve seen 19 Scriptures that say that Jesus now sits.

And I also see 2 Scriptures about times when Jesus was seen standing in heaven: when Stephen looked into heaven and saw Jesus standing to God’s right (see Acts 7:55-56); and when John saw the Lamb standing where the throne is in heaven (see Revelation 5:6).

It is also true that Jesus is among us when we gather (Matthew 18:20). And there are many other Scriptures that talk about where Jesus, God’s Spirit, and the Father are, and what they are doing.

Seeing Jesus

We’ll see Jesus as one who radiates a light unlike any other; we will see that he is full of so much life. In Jesus is life (John 1:4), and his life is the light of humans (John 1:4).

We’ll see the incredible joy that covers him. Jesus has been anointed with joy more than any of his companions (Psalm 45:7).

We’re Invited to Stare

We are invited to think about Jesus, trust and depend on him, love him. And to keep our gaze on him.

And while we are locking our eyes and fixing our minds on Jesus, where are we? Ephesians 2:6 says that God has already seated those who are saved with Jesus in the heavenly places.

If that’s not you yet, you can ask God now. Jesus loves us so much that while each one of us was still a sinner, he went ahead and died for us to save us (Romans 5:8-9). (See what the Bible says about how to be saved: https://www.openbible.info/topics/how_to_be_saved.)

A Blessing for You

May your mind and eyes be fixed on Christ as you run your race, and may he keep you in perfect peace.
