3 Prayers for Your Words

God has put much potential for good into our words. Here are 3 ways we can steward that gift, along with a prayer for each.

Words are important to God. His own Son, Jesus, is known as the Word.

Since we are made in God’s image, God has put much potential for good into our words.

Here are 3 ways we can steward that gift, along with a prayer for each.

My Heart Fills & My Mouth Spills Good Treasure

Scripture describes the source of our words:

The good person out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil person out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.

– Luke 6:45 (NASB)

God, help me fill my heart with good things so the storehouse is full of good treasure.

I Speak Words That Lift Others

Job, a Biblical icon of suffering, declared that he could have used words to give something of value to a hurting friend. He recognized the power of words to strengthen another person and to lessen their pain.

… I could strengthen you with my mouth,

And the condolence of my lips could lessen your pain.

– Job 16:5 (NASB)

God, give me words to strengthen another, and words to lessen the pain of another.

I Ask God for Help with My Mouth & Heart

David asked for help. So can we. The psalmist wrote:

May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart

Be acceptable in Your sight,

LORD, my rock and my Redeemer.

Psalm 19:14 (NASB)

God, please make my speech and my thoughts a delight to you. Make my words align with your plans. Please use them as tools for beauty in the strengthening of your kingdom.

Simple Prayers and Resurrection

I fully expect those simple prayers, prayed in faith, to be answered in many ways in our lives, both in the days to come, and even for years to come.

It encourages my faith when I re-read journals from previous months or years, and I see what I prayed, and then realize the outline of God’s work in the picture that’s emerged since then.

I wrote How to Journal with God because I want you to experience that faith-building journey, as well.

I’ve seen some impossible prayers answered. The kind of prayers that don’t suggest a plan of action to God, because I had no idea what that plan might be.

In my book Faith with Wings, I shared about praying for God to turn around a situation that was getting in the way of my love for him, and that I didn’t know how to change. And then I experienced him do it.

The main character in my book Ordinary Miracles has experienced firsthand an answer to prayer that changed her life. And now she is wondering just how far God wants to go on this side of heaven.

In real life, Jesus made some pretty amazing statements about that. With the authority and power to back them up.

Jesus’ resurrection from the dead made him the door for us, into fullness of life with God.

It really happened. It changes everything.

We have a lot to celebrate!

Joyfully,

AmyLu
