3 Ways to Wield Our Words

There are 3 things I want to do to wield the God-given power of my words well.

The Power in Your Words

I’m grateful for God’s gift of words. And for the way he designed words to be a powerful instrument.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue

And those who love it will eat its fruit.

Proverbs 20:21 (NASB)

Pleasant words are a honeycomb,

Sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.

Proverbs 16:24 (NASB)

Like apples of gold in settings of silver,

Is a word spoken at the proper time.

Proverbs 25:11 (NASB)

3 Things I Want to Do

There are 3 things I want to do to wield the God-given power of my words well.

1. Curate my mouth. Choose wisely what to talk about.

One who withholds his words has knowledge…. (Proverbs 17:27 NASB)

The words of a person’s mouth are deep waters; The fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook. (Proverbs 18:4 NASB)

Prayer:

Set a guard, LORD, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips. (Psalm 141:3 NASB)

2. Steer my thoughts. Not let them drive.

We are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5 NASB)

3. Tend my mind and heart like a garden. Give space to only what will bear good fruit on my lips.

With the fruit of a person’s mouth his stomach will be satisfied; He will be satisfied with the product of his lips. (Proverbs 20:20 NASB)

A Blessing

May we have vision from God of what he wants to do through our words.

May we live it out in friendship with him.

And may we “be satisfied with the product of our lips,” just like Proverbs 20:20 says.

Blessings,

AmyLu
