As I consider some of the reasons Jesus was born on Earth, there is so much to celebrate!
To Give Life & Life More Abundantly
… I [Jesus] have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. – John 10:10 (NKJV)
To Give Everlasting Life in Place of Death
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son [Jesus], that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. – John 3:16 (NKJV)
To Destroy the Works of the Devil
For this purpose the Son of God [Jesus] was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. – 1 John 3:8 (NKJV)
For Our Freedom, Health, and Wholeness
Luke 4:16-21 gives some amazing specifics about Jesus’ work on Earth:
So He [Jesus] came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. And as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up to read. And He was handed the book of the prophet Isaiah. And when He had opened the book, He found the place where it was written:
“The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;
To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD.”
– Luke 4:16-21 (NKJV)
Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. And He began to say to them, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.”
(See Isaiah 61:1-3.)
You are part of the reason Jesus was born on Earth.
As you read these Scriptures and many others, you can see that you are part of the reason Jesus was born on Earth. He came to do these things, not in the abstract, but for actual people. You can accept and receive him and his work for yourself.
“Let anyone who is thirsty come to me [Jesus] and drink.”
– John 7:37 (NIV)
